The Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare sets out the minimum requirements for a qualification that develops and confirms the competence of those who work with children in residential settings.

The qualification recognises the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to demonstrate their experience in roles such as a home care supervisor, care supervisor, deputy supervisor or scheme supervisor. It provides learners’ with guidance on effective communication, personal development, values and behaviours, health and wellbeing, responsibilities of self and others and safeguarding. 

Now that you have completed this qualification you could progress on to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.

Earning Criteria

The Apprentice has achieved 61 credits. The Apprentice has demonstrated their knowledge, skills and behaviours achieving 53 credits of mandatory units, examples of which consists of:

  • Understand the development of children and young people in residential childcare
  • Understand how to safeguard and protect children and young people in residential childcare
  • Understand how to support children and young people.
  • Promote effective communication and information handling.
  • Support risk management in residential childcare
  • Assessment and planning with children and young people.
  • Support group living in residential childcare.
  • Support positive outcomes for children and young people in residential childcare.
  • Support the well-being and resilience of children and young people in residential childcare.
  • Support children and young people in residential childcare to achieve their learning potential.
  • Support children and young people in residential childcare to manage their health.
  • Support the development of socially aware behaviour in residential childcare.
  • Engage in professional development.
  • Support the rights, diversity and equality of children and young people in residential childcare 

The additional 22+ credits achieved were chosen and tailored to the apprentice's job and where the areas of Continuing Professional Development was required.
